Tips for the Centurion Punch

Set order of targets

In order to score the most points with as few puches as possible, the close targets should be hit first, then the ones in the middle and finally (even if it's hard to stay patient) the far away targets.
Why is that?
For each target hit gives a permanent 5% bonus to the score when punching. The more targets hit, the higher the percentage. And that has a better effect on higher scores.

  • Sample calculation:
  1. Punch at 0%: 100 miles = 50 points
  2. Punch at 5%: 2,000 miles = 1,100 points (50 from the first punch plus 1,050 from the second)
  3. Punch at 10%: 5,000 miles = 3,850 points (1,100 from the first two plus 2,750 from the third)
  • And now the other way around:
  1. Punch at 0%: 5,000 miles = 2,500 points
  2. Punch at 5%: 2,000 miles = 3,550 points (2,500 from the first punch plus 1,050 from the second)
  3. Punch at 10%: 100 miles = 3,605 points (3,550 from the first two plus 55 from the third)

In this example, 3 punches already make a difference of 245 points!
I did the maths:
So if all 80 targets are optimally hit, it makes a difference of up to 250,000 points!!

General operation of the buttons

It doesn't matter whether you select a region, angle of attack, strength meter or "land now!":
The reaction in the game always occurs with "mouse-up" - that means not when the mouse is clicked, but only when the mouse button is released again!
I always click and hold and wait until the target I want is reached and then release the mouse button.
Don't look at the centurion while landing (it can be distracting), but only at the target!
When the arrow is directly over the centre of the target, release and hit!

Button "Land now!"

When this button is clicked during the flight, the Centurion initiates its landing using its current trajectory. So the flatter the throw, the longer the remaining flight time. Here only experience helps to land accurately.
But if the centurion has already landed (at least) once, a click on the button leads to an immediate landing.
The trajectory leads almost vertically downwards.

I always try to aim at a target, to land the first time just before it, and then to really land NOW with the "land now"!

Angle of attack

French - Centurion - Règle l'angle.PNG Physically, 45 to 50 degrees is the optimal angle to achieve the greatest possible distance.
In my experience, this works quite well.

I select very flat angle with little strength if I want to hit a very close target, for example in Gaul.

Mile Limit

In the first two or three "seasons" of C-punching, it was still the case that more distance could be achieved with more strength.

But then a kind of "rev limiter" was introduced, which is ~36 strength points. Each additional strength point has no effect on the distance!
So if a villager reaches a safe 36 strength points, no additional tools need to be used (Malt Water, Wine from Durocortorum, Lukewarm Cervisia) - the landing point does not change and is pretty much exactly 8,000 miles. If additional stones are used (Stone Block, Grindstone, Menhir), the landing point is shifted forward by ~800, ~1,400 or ~2,000 miles.
These three values are added together and if all three are used, a maximum of ~12,240 miles can be achieved (as we know from the long punching tournament we made once beside the game). This means that the landing is already outside the visible map. This distance can only be achieved by an optimal throw, so

  • Strength at least 36
  • Optimal angle of attack
  • Discard with max power
  • Use of all three tools (Stone Block, Grindstone, Menhir)
The tools must be used IMMEDIATELY after being thrown. Any subsequent action reduces the effect!

Golden Sickles

Golden sickles.pngHow the heck do I get golden sickles?
Do you know that?
There has been puching for weeks and months and there is simply no gold sickle...
The solution to the riddle:
In every region there is something typical of the country. For example, a bagpipe in Scotland or a totem pole in America.
And the best gold sickles (Asterix readers know that emoticon) you get in Lutetia - Gaul. Therefore land in Gaul and there is a chance of getting a gold sickle.
Doesn't always work, but it's the only way to get it at all, because sickles generally don't drop in other countries! And you don't even have to hit a camp - the sickle also drops if the landing is in open terrain!

And how do I hit a target in Gaul? Choose a champion that isn't full power (below 20 is good). Then choose a flat trajectory. As a result, the targets in Gaul are even hit with certainty. An other possibility is hitting nearly vertically with low strength. Then the downward trajectory is also nearly vertical.

Dual Targets

DualTarget.jpg Dual targets are a real nuisance!

The second target is only visible on the map and can only score a bull's eye when the pointer is directly over the center of the target.

There is tremendous responsiveness to pressing the "Land now!" button required! Hitting that without the centurion bouncing at least once before is VERY hard!

Weapon Error

positive for players

Each C-punch consumes one durability point of the currently active weapon. If after the punch it is indicated that a weapon is broken, a new weapon does not necessarily have to be refilled immediately. The system reacts so slowly that the weapon's strength lasts one to many tries (my personal record was 17 !) even though it is truly broken.

The strength of the hero is displayed at the beginning of the throw - so just see if the value has decreased and only then act if necessary.

negative for players

It's a well-known annoyance that quite often the system crashes when C-punching.

I was able to reproduce ONE reason for this:
When the weapon's last durability point has been used up, it causes the system to break down (refesh) for certain combinations of villagers and weapons. The durability point is not deducted, so after restarting the next attempt with the same villager will cause the next crash.
Remedy:

  • take another villager
  • Go smack once with this hero, then equip a new weapon and keep punching
  • equip another weapon

The crash happened to me (reproducible as I said!) with the following combinations:

  • Ironix and Halberd
  • Ironix and Sumerian Bow
  • Lunatix and Halberd
  • Lyrix and Sumerian Bow
  • Demo and Halberd
  • Demo and Tomahawk
  • Demo and Street Cat

I could see the postive error

  • at Pointandclix and Tomahawk

How many points do I need?

The query is allowed: what for?

Let's start with the simplest: "my personal goal":
MY goal is currently to reach 150,000 points. Why this number?
Democratix gives a quest once a day to punch 5 Centurions and thus win 25 Roman Helmets, among other things.
I'll take that with me!
So I punch 5 times (preferably to America to still have a chance to win Tomahawks and ~5 Roman Helmets there) and have an average of 50 Roman Helmets per day.
If I do this for 14 days, I have

  1. 700 Roman Helmets more and
  2. Enough points (over 150,000) to reach the "Stone League".

and thus 25 Roman Helmets and 5 Centurions more than in the "Wooden League" as reward.
AND: I'm still saving Centurions to make a "big hit" later. And that brings us to the above rankings.

Of course, more points must be scored for certain places (and thus corresponding bonuses). But how much exactly depends on the commitment of the other players. For the first place, you usually need over an insane 60 MILLION points!
I also did a little calculation here:
With optimum progress, that is

  • the first 80 punches each hit a different camp
  • so that it reaches 400% after 80 punches
  • then 1 Menhir, 1 Grindstone and 1 Stone Block are used with each punch
  • That's about 12,000 miles / 6,000 points * 400% = 30,000 points per punch
  • 85,000,000 points (as the current maximum) divided by 30,000 per punch totals an additional 2,811 punches
Thanks to Boshold and Lenaxis for pointing out a formula error to me! emoticon

Now add the 80 punches for the camps (around 100 would be realistic), so that's almost 3,000 punches in this sample calculation!
That's more than 200 punches per day - over a period of two weeks on EVERY day!
And 3,000x Menhirs, Grindstones and Stone Blocks are required!

Plus 3,000 Centurions, all thrown at the optimal angle!

Everyone can judge for themselves whether this is feasible and possible with normal means...
