This page contains the game technique related to the battle. A simple guide to fighting the Romans is elsewhere on this wiki. Combat in Asterix & Friends takes place between the protagonists (Gauls and sometimes Egyptian workers) and the Romans. The Romans never start a fight - they always spawn patrols. Clicking on a Roman patrol, camp or legion brings up the battle interface and the player can select one or more villagers to attack with.


Total Strength

Selecting multiple villagers to enter a battle sums their current strengths and gives a bonus of +1 strength for each additional fighter. The bonus for the guilds and Pointandclix is ​​applied before the calculation. The guild bonus against legions is added up when calculating, regardless of the number of fighters.


Formula against patrols and camps:

  • Total Strength = Sum (current strength of selected villagers) + (number of villagers -1)

Formula against legions:

  • Total Strength = Sum (current strength of selected villagers) + (number of villagers -1) + guild bonus

The total strength determines the health loss of a legion or the health loss of the Roman unit.


Chance of winning

Players may attack a Roman unit if their team has a minimum strength.

  • Minimum Strength = Roman Strength - 20

Above this minimum strength, the chance of victory increases with each additional strength point spent, reaching 50% if the strength of the team is equal to the Roman unit. The chance of winning is 100% if the team strength is 19 or more points above.

Victory and defeat

If the player wins against a camp or patrol, the camp or patrol is eliminated and removed from the field. However, defeat will result in the camp or patrol's strength being reduced by 40% of the total deployed power (round down).

If the player wins against a legion, the legion loses an equal amount of health points as the total strength used against it. If the legion's health is less than or equal to zero, the legion is defeated and removed from the friend map. If the player is defeated, the Legion's health is still reduced by 20% of the total deployed strength (round down).

Attention: if a battle is lost due to the lost points, but the legion's health also drops to zero, the legion is also defeated and the player will be presented a "victory" screen. However, the deployed characters still lose health as if defeated, and such a dearly-bought victory does not count for some quests.


Asterix and Obelix

These characters are 'invincible' because of Getafix's potion. When they are added to the battle team, victory is always guaranteed (100% chance of winning).

The base strength of Asterix and Obelix is ​​50 - when they are each deployed ALONE and the player is not in a guild. If the player has joined a guild, the corresponding bonus can be added for each guild level:

  • from level 2 = +2
  • from level 12 = +4
  • from level 22 = +6

If Asterix or Obelix are used TOGETHER with the villagers, they also get the villager bonus +1 each (example: 160 villager + 50 Asterix +1 villager bonus = 211 energy damage)


Strength loss from battle

Regardless of whether the battle results in victory or defeat, each character will lose some strength in battle. The strength loss is calculated based on the following steps.

First of all, the basic power loss is determined solely by the maximum strength of each individual fighter (not by the starting strength). After a win, the base power loss is 40% (rounded down). After a loss, the base power loss is 70% (rounded down).

Note that due to rounding errors, some maximum strength values ​​are "more efficient" (7, 12, 17, 22, etc.).

Then shields are taken into account - the damage reduction value is subtracted from the base power loss.

Lastly, it checks that the final power (the villager's power AFTER the battle) is not less than the equipped weapon's power (or 0 if none is equipped).

  • If the (initial strength - base strength loss + shield) is greater than the weapon strength value,
  • then the ending strength = (starting strength - base strength loss + shield)
  • otherwise the final strength = weapon strength value (or 0 if no weapon is equipped)

The strength loss is shown as a negative number: final strength - initial strength

It should be noted that all combat weapons whose durability comes to the end only break after deducting the loss of strength.
